SINGAPORE: Three teenagers were arrested for suspected drug offences on Wednesday (Sep 18) during a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation that saw S$78,000 (US$60,000) worth of drugs seized.
Two 19-year-olds – a man and a woman – were nabbed at a residential unit near Rivervale Walk, said CNB on Friday in a news release.
From the man’s bedroom, officers recovered various drug paraphernalia, including a digital weighing scale.
The two suspects were then escorted to a unit rented by the man in a private estate near Hougang Avenue 7. About 486g of Ice and 695g of cannabis were seized there.
Officers then raided a residential unit near Serangoon North Avenue 3 in a follow-up operation, where another 19-year-old man was arrested.
About 24g of Ice, various drug paraphernalia and S$11,400 in cash were recovered from the bedroom.
Earlier this week, five men aged between 19 and 39 were arrested in a separate CNB operation where 6.5kg of cannabis was seized.
Senior assistant commissioner Sng Chern Hong, deputy director of policy and administration at CNB, emphasised the need for parents to join the police in educating the young on the harms of drugs and their destructive effects on families and societies.
“It is disheartening to see not just three young lives destroyed by drugs but also their families and loved ones becoming victims of drugs and drug abuse,” he said.
“Let’s start the conversation now, before it is too late.”
Investigations into the drug activities of the three teenagers are ongoing.
Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
